Services
Bullion. We offer physical silver & gold bullion: bars, rounds, and coins. We facilitate exchanges from/to national currencies and between metals. Unfamiliar with "bullion"? The definition is in our terms section below.
Relational Service. You will experience service from us that is private, safe, and full of kindness. We enjoy meeting with our clients face-to-face when possible.
Exchange. Here are examples of possible bullion exchange transactions:
- From national currency to bullion (i.e. exchange USD for XAU as gold bars).
- From bullion to national currency (i.e. exchange XAG as silver rounds for USD).
- From one metal to another (i.e. exchange silver bars for a gold round).
- From bullion one form to another (i.e. exchange 10oz silver bars for 1oz silver rounds).
Secure Storage. We assist clients in opening and utilizing secure storage accounts and safe deposit boxes at vaults & depositories: local, domestic, and international.
Tax Sheltered Accounts. We assist clients who wish to close, distribute, liquidate, modify, transfer, or open government regulated "tax sheltered/self directed" holdings of precious metals. These accounts are often related to retirement, charity, education, health care, or a first home. (US: IRA, Roth IRA, 401(k), HSA, ESA, DAF | Canada: TFSA, RRSP, FHSA, RESP). Tax sheltered account exchanges often effect rates due to the extra administrative and logistics work required.

Rates
Our exchange rates are visible in the header of this web page. Our rates are specific percentages from the mid-market price (visible on xe.com) and expressed as a BID/ASK for each currency pair (i.e. XAU/USD). "Mid-market" is the midpoint between the BID and ASK in the futures market. Our rates reflect the current market for physical delivery of bullion in Saint Paul, MN. This is based off the rates of regional refiners, wholesalers, and logistics providers. When a specific mint or issuance of bullion is required by a client, the rates and lead times are less favorable.
Terms
- "Sølvency Bullion Exchange" is the title of our office on Grand Ave, established in 2023. This title is not a business name, DBA, or alias and will not be found on contracts.
- "Sølvency" combines "sølv" Norwegian & Danish for silver and the financial term "solvency," meaning: to have liquidity/funds to pay one's expenses.
- "Bullion" is physical gold, silver, or other precious metal of high purity (.999+), valued solely by its weight. Generally bullion is imprinted with its weight, purity, and a hallmark from its mint or an assay office.
- "Exchange" is a transaction where one thing is traded for another. With us, bullion transactions are currency exchanges rather than the purchase of goods/products.
- "Troy Ounce (oz, ozt)" bullion in "western" nations is usually weighed and marked according to the troy ounce which is equal to ~31.1 grams.
- "XAU, XAG, X..." Like the US Dollar (USD), Euro (EUR), and every other national currency, gold (XAU), silver (XAG), platinum (XPT), and palladium (XPD) each have an internationally recognized ISO 4217 currency code. These are the metal's chemical symbol prefixed with "X". The weight is one troy ounce per currency unit.
- Example: "10 XAG" is ten troy ounces (311g) of silver bullion.
Perspective
Silver & gold have always been trustworthy as currency, faithful as savings, and globally desired as portable wealth. Since the beginning of civilization, these metals have been vital for prudent household stewardship and an essential backbone of every market economy.
As savings, silver & gold remain valuable, portable, and beautiful without depending on electrical power, computer networks, or the integrity of any bank, business, or government.
As portable wealth, silver & gold carry substantial value in a small footprint. Take bullion in your hand and its worth follows you. This value can be transferred to another person, at anyplace and at anytime.
As currency, the trust and stability afforded by silver & gold have been vital in forming every major economy. Central banks will continue to debase currencies. Precious metals as currency is an excellent path forward. Many farmers, tradesmen, and merchants are still eager to accept gold or silver as direct payment for their goods and services.
Reviews
We desire truthful feedback and we benefit from public praise. Disputes or complaints should first be communicated directly to the offending merchant and seven days given for a response before using public reviews/ratings as a means to tarnish reputation.
